There are so many reasons for booking your sailing, motor cruising, powerboat or navigation theory course in the Solent area. It is one of the most popular cruising areas in the UK with thousands of boats and marine businesses based here and all of those people just can’t be wrong!
The Solent offers amazing variety in a relatively small area. There are busy marinas, quaint fishing harbours and quiet anchorages for overnight berthing. You will encounter passenger, commercial and naval vessels as well as other leisure craft on your course and there is nearly always a race or regatta happening somewhere.
The Solent is ideal for novices. The waters are protected by the Isle of Wight and harbours are no more than a few hours apart.
The Solent is also ideal for the more experienced. There are plenty of challenges to provide interesting navigation and pilotage exercises and strong tidal streams to catch out the unwary. The Solent is also an ideal departure point for cross-Channel passages.
You will visit some superb destinations on your course - lovely Lymington, the beautiful Beaulieu River, the UK’s sailing capital Cowes, Newtown Creek nature reserve or historic Portsmouth to name but a few. Ashore you will find good food and drink in a fine selection of pubs and restaurants, when you are not taking your turn in the galley of course.
There is a wide range of sea schools in the Solent area offering the full range of RYA and MCA courses as well as cruising and race training. Courses are available all year round and go ahead in almost all weathers in the protected waters.
