Dartmouth's sheltered, deep water harbour is one of the best natural harbours on England's south west coast.  It is easy to enter and enjoys 24 hour access with plenty of moorings, making it an ideal and attractive stopover when cruising.  Dartmouth also lies at the heart of some of the finest cruising grounds in Europe and makes an excellent base for exploring the UK's south coast as well as the Channel Islands and north west France.  It is the home of Britannia Royal Naval College and a local fishing fleet which, combined with ferries crossing to Kingswear on the opposite bank of the River Dart and many pleasure boats, make this a busy port.

Two castles maintain a guard at the mouth of the River Dart, which is navigable for eight miles through steep wooded hillsides and peaceful countryside.  You can explore this beautiful area by boat, bus or train or make it a more leisurely affair on foot or bicycle. In the town, Dartmouth's ancient narrow streets and cobbled market place offer boutique shops and galleries and plenty of gourmet restaurants, pubs and cafés, making it a popular destination for cruising and tourism alike.
