Langstone Harbour is a large tidal bay between Portsmouth Harbour to the west and Chichester Harbour to the east.  A narrow entrance protects it from the open sea and the sheltered waters are mostly used for recreation, both on and off the water, though there is a small commercial fishing fleet based here.  Much of the harbour dries out at low water but there are deep water channels and moorings as well as a marina for those who can't take the ground.

The extensive mudflats and salt marshes support huge flocks of wading birds and rare sea birds can be seen nesting on the islands.
