The Beaulieu River provides probably the most picturesque cruising destination in the Solent area.  Surrounded by oak woodland, the river banks are particularly noted for bird life and it is an important wetland for waterfowl, supporting many rare species.

On the banks of the river, in the New Forest National Park, is Buckler's Hard - a unique 18th century village where warships were built for Nelson's Navy.  Nearby Beaulieu can be reached from Buckler's Hard via a footpath of around 2 miles, through woodland grown with shipbuilding in mind, or by taking a dinghy further up river.
